MUAY THAI KICKBOXING!

Muay Thai, which translates to Thai Boxing, is a system of combat that is over 4 centuries old. During ancient times, the Thai people developed Muay Thai as a dominating and combative system to be used against the enemies from other nations. At that time, Muay Thai was time tested and proven effective by the ancient warriors of Siam. Around the early 1920’s, Thai Boxing spawned into a modern day sport, similar to boxing you would see on TV, and today is known as Thailand’s national sport.

Thai Boxing teaches the student or fighter to use their most effective natural weapons; fists, knees, elbows and legs. Traditionally, as other martial arts would, Thai Boxing does not have a rank system based on colored belts. All types of people, worldwide, use Thai Boxing to not only learn how to defend themselves, but also as a way to get in shape, burn off stress and most popular, have fun.

GRACIE JIU-JITSU

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was first made famous in the early 1990’s when Royce Gracie won the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championships. The general public saw for the first time, here in the United States, what the legendary Helio Gracie had been teaching his family about the ancient art of Jiu-Jitsu. Rather than use strikes (kicks, punches etc.) to win a real fight, Jiu-Jitsu teaches the practitioner to use submission holds, defensive positioning and leverage as the means to defeating even a much larger opponent. Jiu-Jitsu has become the most popular martial art on the planet in this past decade. Jiu-Jitsu is very popular for all age levels, women and men alike.

Jeff Curran, President and Head Instructor of Curran Martial Arts Academy, holds the prestigious rank of Black Belt under Professor Pedro Sauer. The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program at Curran Martial Arts is led by Jeff and his qualified instructors. Jeff has over 13 years of experience in Jiu-Jitsu and considered one of the top 10 fighters in the world at his weight class of 145lbs. He is also known as one of the most technical instructors in the Pedro Sauer Jiu-Jitsu Association.

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA)

After the explosion of “No Rules” fighting in the early 1990’s with the debut of UFC and Royce Gracie’s victories in the Octagon, the public perception of what works “for real” in a fight was completely altered over night. This spawned a new age development of martial arts as a whole by breaking traditions and cross training multiple styles of martial arts. This also caused an outburst of smaller events, now called the politically safe name of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), world wide. People all over the United States alone were quickly becoming world known as some of the most skilled fighters of all time.

Today, MMA is still on the up-rise with Pay-Per View and even live T.V. jumping at every opportunity to air a live fight. By no surprise, students more so than ever are seeking Curran Martial Arts to be their home as they prepare themselves to become one of these pioneers of such an Ultimate sport as MMA. Curran Martial Arts has one of the fastest growing MMA Teams in North America and is known as one of the most technical Training Centers in the Midwest and even the Nation.

All students of C.M.A. wishing to become a fighter should simply enroll into our Pro Membership, inform Jeff of their goals to become a fighter and begin their training. After ample time to evaluate, Jeff will make arrangements for more fight specific training. We believe that your house is only as solid as your foundation and that process begins with basic classes.

Team Curran is headed by Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Top Ten World Ranked fighter and pro boxer Jeff Curran. Jeff shares the training responsibility with his personal boxing coach Dr. Doug Mango in preparing the fighters, amateur and professional, Team Curran.
