Curran
and Palaszewski Victorious at Super Brawl 35!
Honolulu,
Hawaii
April 16th, 2004
Never
a dull moment for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, Jeff "Big
Frog" Curran and his teammate/ student Bart "Bartimus"
Palaszewski as they return from a victorious weekend at Super
Brawl 35 in Honolulu, Hawaii held at the Legendary Blaisdale
Arena. Bart found a tough fighter in his Super Brawl debut against
Hiroaki Okada of Purebred, Omiya. Okada sported a professional
record of 2-1, taking on Bart who went into the fight on an
impressive 7 fight win streak. The first two rounds consisted
of Bart defending takedowns and playing the guard as Okada attempted
to ground and pound his way to a win. However, Bart was dominating
the standing game the majority of the fight and in the 3rd round
landed a series of strikes that put Okada on the run. Bart went
for a choke and ended up on the top position where he landed
a series of strikes, forcing Okada's corner to throw in the
towel and for the referee to stop the bout at the same time.
Bart wins via TKO to strikes at 3:02 or round 3.
In
1 of 3 main event bouts, "The Big Frog", Jeff Curran
faced off against a veteran Japanese fighter named Kimihito
Nonaka. Curran, known for his ground game, continued to show
his diversity by dominating the stand up action with punches,
kicks and knees. Start to finish, this bout had it all. Considered
by many to be the fight of the night, Curran pulled off an impressive
victory with a Rear Choke at 4:35 of round 3 after landing a
near KO kick to the face of Nonaka from the Guard. "It's
just basic Jiu-Jitsu. If someone stands in your guard, you kick
them in the face. Thanks to Pedro Sauer and my teammates back
home for that" said Curran in his post fight interview.
